Top tips to take into account when developing your Conscious product strategy

Obviously the main challenge when it comes to developing your purpose driven , Slow brand strategy is within your product development phase. But we've got you covered with our guidelines.

  1. Make sure its a product your ideal customer is ready to invest on. Let's get real , its very unrealistic to develop a sustainable brand with a low priced product. So make sure the product is also top of mind in terms of value for those who will use it. For example it would be very challenging to make socks with a sustainable context, as normally it is not a product people are willing to highly invest on.

  2. Consider the environmental impact of the materials you would like to work with. Brainstorm many materials in relation to possible suppliers, and if they are not very ethical try and minimize them or replace them with better sustainable options. Consider their impact for the environment in terms of waste & lifecycle. For example, instead of nylon maybe tencel is a lot better for activewear. And if they are too expensive to start with for your production, consider reducing the product category types .

  3. Choose factories that are adapted to small production quantities , This is the main challenge when it comes to sustainability for most fashion brands, the over production of garments , as most factories are not friendly to small production quantities. I recommend checking the Common objectives supplier and manufacturer website (or download our free database) where you are more likely to find factories suited to small and exclusive production orders.

  4. Consider the recyclability , lifecycle and durability of the materials you are working with, try to go for natural , biodegradable materials that can easily be up cycled or regenerated into the environment this will assure they will not end up in landfills as waste emitting harmful substances. There is no need to invest in super-sonic materials, something as simple as Linen is ideal.

  5. Consider multi-functional features , a product that can be used in several different ways is most likely to be valued by customers and last longer , due to its practical nature. Consider highlighting garments that can be worn in different ways or have a Seasonless appeal

  6. Consider highlighting emotional value for your product communication , if you look at the brand SEZANE they do a great job in this, they may not be perfect in terms of ethical strategy but they are really great at building a high customer value and emotional product relationship by highlighting how it is a brand for all generations
